Mia: Pregnancy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: 25 September 2026
What Mia stores on your device
Mia stores the information you enter to provide its pregnancy companion features. This may include profile details, pregnancy and wellness tracking entries, journal notes, questions, local conversation history, and notification preferences. These records stay on your device and are not synchronized through iCloud. Mia does not use a public database, advertising, or cross-app tracking.
Optional AI support chat
Chat is optional. Before Mia first answers, the app asks one question: whether Mia may use your app information. If you choose “Yes, use my info”, each chat request sends your current message, recent chat history, and your app information to Mia's first-party service, which passes it to OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to (currently Anthropic's Claude) for a reply. If you choose “Only use my messages”, only your message and recent chat history are sent.
Your app information means: first name, journey status, pregnancy week, first-pregnancy answer and goals; recent mood check-ins; recent weight, kick-count, contraction, symptom and other tracker entries; upcoming appointments and saved visit questions; your two most recent notes; and your Saved-library items. You can switch this off at any time in Settings → Mia & privacy, and you can stop Mia's AI access completely there.
Mia's memory. While you share your app information, Mia may note up to three lasting facts from a message, such as a food you avoid or your partner's name. These notes are stored only on your device, are sent with later chat requests so you don't need to repeat yourself, and can be read, deleted one by one, or cleared in Settings → Mia & privacy → What Mia remembers. Delete All Data also removes them.
Listening to replies. If you tap Listen on a reply, the reply text is sent through Mia's service and OpenRouter to OpenAI's audio model to create audio, which is returned to your device and cached there. Mia's service does not store the text or the audio. OpenAI does not use it to train its models but may keep it for up to 30 days to check for abuse. If Mia's voice service is unavailable, your device's built-in voice reads the reply instead.
Saved videos and links. If you have agreed to chat and you save a link to a public Instagram, TikTok or YouTube video, Mia's service downloads that video's audio from the public page, sends the audio through OpenRouter to a speech-capable model to write down what is said and a short summary, and returns both to your device. Mia's service deletes the downloaded audio straight away and does not store the link, the audio, the transcript or the summary. When your iPhone cannot write a summary itself, the saved text of a video or page is sent the same way to get one. Private posts are not read. If a video cannot be read, Mia keeps the link and its title.
Mia’s service requests a zero-data-retention route from OpenRouter for every production chat request. This restricts routing to model endpoints that OpenRouter identifies as having a zero-data-retention policy. Unless you switch on “Save my chats”, Mia does not store chat messages or model replies in its backend database. Mia never writes chat text to its operational logs. OpenRouter and the selected model provider process the request to generate a reply and may process limited technical metadata under their current policies. Some eligible endpoints may use temporary in-memory caching.
Optional saved chats
“Save my chats” in Settings → Mia & privacy is off until you switch it on. When it is on, Mia’s server keeps each message you send and each reply Mia gives, together with a one-way code made from this iPhone’s App Attest key. Mia does not receive your name, email or Apple ID with these chats. We keep them so we can improve Mia’s answers and safety, and we rely on your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Saved chats are deleted automatically after 12 months. Switching the setting off, stopping Mia’s AI access, or using Delete All Data deletes every saved chat from Mia’s server right away. If you remove the app without doing this, contact us and we will delete them.
Optional backup
You can choose to back up your Mia data with Sign in with Apple. Mia packs your records, notes, chats and memory notes on your iPhone and encrypts them there with a key kept in your iCloud Keychain. Only the encrypted file reaches Mia’s server, together with a one-way code made from your Apple user ID. Mia cannot read the backup and does not receive your name or email. You can back up, restore, sign out, or delete your account and backup at any time in Settings → Backup. Deleting removes the backup from Mia’s server right away.
Voice input
If you choose voice input, Apple Speech Recognition converts your recording to text. Mia sends the resulting text as your chat message; it does not upload the audio recording to Mia’s chat service.
Age and eligibility
Mia is intended for adults age 18 or older. Before using the app, you must self-confirm that you are 18 or older. Mia does not collect or store your date of birth. If you are under 18, do not use Mia.
Security and retention
Mia uses HTTPS for network communication. In production, Mia uses Apple App Attest and limited anti-abuse controls. Daily and monthly pseudonymous usage counters expire at the end of their applicable usage window. Pseudonymous integrity records may be retained for as long as reasonably needed to operate and protect the service. These technical records do not contain chat text, journal notes, tracker entries, or profile content.
Your choices and deletion
You can decline or stop chat consent, switch off sharing your app information, and use Delete All Data in Mia to remove the app's local records from your device, including Saved items. Mia does not synchronize those records to other devices. For privacy requests that cannot be completed in the app, contact liyakharitonova@gmail.com.
International processing and changes
Optional chat may be processed outside Belgium or the European Economic Area by Railway, OpenRouter, the model provider selected through OpenRouter, and OpenAI for Listen. Their applicable privacy terms and transfer safeguards govern that processing. Mia does not claim EU-only processing. If this policy or Mia’s data practices materially change, the updated policy will be published here and, where required, new consent will be requested in the app.
